General Motors Senior Cost Engineer Specialist - Software - Product Program Cost Optimization (PPCO) - Finance - FIN0011360 in Warren, Michigan

GM’s growing focus on AV/EV vehicles, Auto 2.0, combined with the advancements in technology and manufacturing processes, requires Advanced Vehicle Technology Cost (AVTC) leadership and collaboration across GM’s Cost Organization and functional partners in Engineering, Manufacturing, GPS & GPSC. With increasing complexity and technology embedded within our vehicles, there is a need to better understand the underlying costs of software that is developed by GM’s suppliers. This position will support that effort - primarily in the Electrical/Infotainment SMT.


  • Responsible for assessing the software development costs for design, testing and validation of component/system designs from inception to production – these costs are typically captured within a supplier’s ED&D
  • Analysis will require an understanding of the tasks and effort associated with the design and development of electronic modules/components
  • Ultimately, this individual will be responsible for determining market competitive compensation to the supply base in conjunction with GM Engineering and partnering with GM’s Purchasing team during supplier negotiations
  • Occasional domestic and international travel to supplier facilities is required for enhanced costing collaboration

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Software Engineering/Electrical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience as a software programmer with preference for automotive industry experience
  • Prior software costing experience
  • Experience or educational background in design, simulation, characterization or production of integrated circuits
  • Other general skills include software algorithm design, software performance tuning, software design, software debugging, software development fundamentals, software documentation, and software testing
  • Analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
  • Exhibits critical thinking skills in conjunction with intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to work with people within and outside group - including willingness to listen to various opinions / issues
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with global team members
