Responsible for leadingResin Team strategy in support of Global Raw Material team

Primaryresponsibility is to globally develop and implement sourcing and technicalstrategies by working with cross-functional stakeholders.

Workis of a difficult nature involving considerable amount of initiative and a highlevel of independent judgment.


  • Provide Supplier Cost Engineering Expertise to Advanced Purchasingfor major advance sourcing packages
  • Identify cost drivers
  • Understand industry, process, technology and supplier trends
  • Visit supplier facilities and understand cost structure
  • Analyze supplier quotes, recommend target price and assist withsourcing recommendation
  • Continuously improve Supplier Cost/Component Cost Engineeringtechniques
  • Communicate results to all levels of management
  • Analyze market trends on materials, supplier and technologies

  • Share market information on resin materials with team weekly

  • Determine and understand current manufacturing capacity on highuse resins

  • Develop and Execute commodity strategy based on market andtechnology trends
  • Create quarterly global forecast on high usage resins includingmarket prices, sustain global resin benchmark data, and develop technicalpresentations and workshops for buyers on resin materials and applications.

  • Sharewith resin team and Purchasing personnel

  • Developand deliver workshops (Lunch and Learns or staff updates) on resin materials andnew applications at least twice per year
  • Shareinformation on global buyer call for market trends and innovations
  • Support quarterly Materials Energy Steering Committee meetings andother Global Raw Materials meetings as needed

  • Create Agenda, Open Issues List and Meeting Minutes for materialsengineering/resin suppliers/Global Raw Materials purchasing reviews.

  • Improve cross functional partnerships

  • Develop technology path with materials and product engineering
  • Organize and host materials engineering/resin suppliers/purchasingreviews with target resin suppliers with supplier champion on team at least quarterly– Topics include new technology, market conditions, emerging issues, etc. Post meeting highlights on team SharePoint orGlobal Document Management. Completemeeting follow-up as needed including preparing and administration of survey.

  • Develop and implement complete global resin list by materialspecification, vehicle platform and commodity

  • Determine amount of resin materials used in vehicle by program

  • Create and store on team SharePoint site or Global DocumentManagement for vehicles currently in production and starting production
  • Aidin reduction of resin specifications used on vehicle by at least 10% for modelyears 2024 and beyond through understanding the root cause of non-complianceand developing plan for reduction
  • Work with engineering to commonize material specifications
  • Work with engineering to determine appropriate recycled content innew material specifications

  • Support development and execution of business plan to meetbusiness priorities

  • Aid in development of resin indexation agreements as needed

  • Aid in developing formulas for indexing resin materials inpurchasing system as needed

  • Supportglobal/regional buyers with resolution of operational issues which need globalleadership engagement

  • Analyze and apply appropriate tools, i.e., benchmarking, globalcompetitive sourcing, value chain analysis, supplier negotiations, engineeringchange cost containment, technical cost reduction, part/system reuse,etc.

  • Aid in benchmarking and cost modeling tools

  • Share value chain analysis of major suppliers
  • Understand and share manufacturing locations and alternatives forfeedstocks, intermediates and final products used for vehicle parts
  • Provide information for engineering cost containment throughupdates of resin pricing based on forecasts in internal cost engineeringwebsite for purchasing use
  • Update buyers on resin trends and pricing in cost engineeringinternal sites at least once per quarter
  • Make at least 12 supplier visits per year
  • Participate in supplier negotiations as needed

  • Update index pricing as needed in global purchasing system

  • Respond quickly to supply issues
  • Adhere to corporate and unit purchasing and accounting practicesand procedures

  • Know the global vehicle development process

  • Understand and use purchasing and accounting practices andprocedures as needed
  • Obtain zero data spills
  • Participate in all purchasing supplier business meetings, Thermaland Global Raw Materials supplier business meetings and team meetings

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, MaterialsScience, Plastics Engineering Technology or equivalent


  • Raw material related experience
  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Knowledge of plant products, manufacturing processes anddepartmental relationships
  • Knowledge of GPS, E2 and GM Terms and Conditions
  • Knowledge of chemical forecast indices like CDI and IHS
  • Membership in Society of Plastics Engineers or equivalent
  • PhD. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science,Plastics Engineering Technology or equivalent
