About the Supplier Quality Engineer role:

TheSupplier Quality Engineer is the technical liaison between purchasing, GMproduct engineering, internal manufacturing, and our supply base. In this role,the Supplier Quality Engineer works with the suppliers to implement and monitoradvanced quality planning systems, resolve supplier manufacturing issues, andprovide technical support throughout the life cycle of a particular commodity.

SupplierQuality Engineer responsibilities:

•Assuresupplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submissionand approval requirements.

•Review andapprove supplier quality plans for new component parts and assemblies for newvehicle programs.

•Reviewsupplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.

•Implement andmonitoring supplier part qualification and certification processes.

•Determine rootcause of supplier manufacturing problems and implementing timely, effective,and efficient quality resolutions.

•Improvequality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplierlocations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust qualitysystem, or other technical support as required.

•Providetechnical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing productionactivities.

•Complete PFMEArisk reduction reviews with cross functional teams

•IntegrateSupplier Quality activities into the component / system Product DevelopmentTeam (PDT)

•Develop andexecute plans to ensure supplier quoted capacity is achieved through use of Runat Rate process

•SupportVehicle Launch programs and GM Assembly Plants by conducting cross-functionalvalve reviews and managing APQP project timing

•AssessSuppliers’ quality systems and perform on-site audits at Supplier manufacturinglocations

•Monitor anddevelop Suppliers’ quality performance and Bidlist scores

•Ensureexecution of Global Supplier Quality Manual, APQP/PPAP, and AIAG Standards

•Travel asneeded to suppliers to perform job functions and support emerging issueconference calls

•Lead meetingswith Supplier and GM executive leadership teams at High-Risk Suppliers

·Serve as the globalinterface within assigned commodity


MinimumRequired Qualifications

Must belicensed to operate a motor vehicle on public roads

•1 to 3 years’experience in quality, engineering and/or manufacturing.

•Proficient inprint reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.

•Demonstratedknowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).

•Demonstratedknowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling,equipment and facilities.

•Demonstratedknowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.

•Demonstratedability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgmentto develop potential solutions.

•Demonstratedability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.

•Excellentoral, written and presentation and communication skills.

•Ability totravel up to 50% (daily commutable and overnight combined), typical travel isapproximately 25% and most is pre-planned.

•Ability tosupport off-hour meetings as needed for emerging issue and global support

•Knowledge ofAdvanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process(PPAP)

•Demonstratedknowledge of manufacturing principles/processes such as Lean, Theory ofConstraints, PFMEA/Control Plans, SMT, Assembly, Injection Molding, Stamping,and Welding – training available

•Technicalknowledge of process capability, Gage and Tool Design/Development

•Experienceusing problem solving tools such as 8D, Red-X, DFSS, 5 Why, and Fishbone

•High level ofinterpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.


•Three to fiveyears OEM or tiered supplier experience in electrical quality, manufacturing orengineering functions, including demonstrated experience and capability in anyof the following areas:

◦Lean Manufacturing and orManufacturing Quality

◦Manufacturing, Process andor Tool Engineering

◦Quality Systems Planning(APQP), including PPAP

◦Statistical ProblemSolving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC)

◦Product Engineering

Educationand Training

•Bachelor ofScience degree in Engineering (Electrical Preferred, Mechanical Manufacturing,Welding, Plastics, Materials, or Chemical preferred) or equivalent technicalexperience.

•Technical andQuality Certifications are a plus (DFSS, CQE, etc.)
