Job Description

Creative. Artistic. Energetic. Idea generator. Does this sound like you? If so, we’ve got the perfect position for you as a Graphic Designer. The Graphic Designer will be a key part of the Credit Union’s in-house marketing team and will serve as the organization’s lead and sole resource for graphic design and overall creative direction.

The Graphic Designer manages the design process for projects from conceptual design to layout, production and archiving. This person should have strong knowledge of general marketing principles and their application, possess strong writing skills and have the ability and desire to fulfill needs within the department that fall outside of their design responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop designs that make us say “wow.” Lead the development of design work to create fresh, modern and creative branded materials. These projects include, but are not limited to, collateral (brochures, flyers, booklets, stationary, presentations and communications), promotional designs (posters, signs, bulletins, displays, trade show signage, and giveaway items), digital (banners, emails, infographics, blog/website design and graphics, digital posters) direct mail and advertisements.

  • Help our brands come to life. Assist in developing and overseeing the long-term, strategic, creative direction for the Credit Union’s various brands.

  • Be a go-getter. Work with the marketing team and internal leaders to determine project needs and establish goals and timelines.

  • Stop, collaborate and listen. Work closely with vendors, photographers, printers, and other outside resources to execute projects accurately and efficiently.

  • Get to know all Michigan First brands really well. This will ensure all projects reflect the brand, marketing strategy and business goals.

  • Be a team player and advocate of Michigan First via your professionalism in all interactions. Be on board with our company mission, vision and goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education. Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications or related field.

  • Your best work. 5+ years of professional graphic design experience, with a strong portfolio of creative work in print, digital and other media that clearly demonstrates artistic ability.

  • Design experience. Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) Knowledge and experience using DreamWeaver a plus.

  • Web page design experience. Basic knowledge and some experience with HTML and CSS.

  • A computer savvy professional. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel is a must!.

  • Videography skills. Video editing (using Premiere or equivalent) and animation skills are a plus.

  • Critical thinking skills. We’re looking for someone with creative and innovative problem identification and resolution skills.

  • A team player. Works well in a collaborative team environment with tight deadlines, and has the ability to work seamlessly and collaborate with non-designers.

  • A self-starter. Proven ability and experience managing design projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.

  • Strong presentation skills. Ability to effectively share information and “sell ideas.”

  • Outstanding communications skills. Must have top-notch interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively across all levels, and maintain professional relationships internally and externally.

  • Understanding of responsive/mobile design techniques & methodologies.

  • A perfectionist with strong attention to detail. Keen eye for accuracy when proofreading copy and ability to identify spelling, grammatical and other errors to produce accurate and high-quality work.

  • Excellent organizational skills. Strong time-management skills, including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
