Citizens Bank Training Director in Smithfield, Rhode Island


The Training Director will be responsible for managing and overseeing learning initiatives that have an Enterprise-level impact and enable Citizens’ learning strategy. Reporting to the Chief Learning Officer and as part of Citizens Learning and Development team, this role will consult with key business leaders and HR partners to ensure the learning and development needs of the business are met.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be responsible for enterprise wide initiatives such as leadership and management training, and professional development skills, from operational planning and design, to implementation and change management, ensuring participation, relevance, and retention.

  • Developing and executing the learning strategy based on a deep understanding of the business priorities and linkage to the talent agenda to ensure success for all colleagues and Citizens overall.

  • Drive evolution of a learning culture.Contribute to thought leadership and innovation to architect learning experiences, and promote and deliver learning content, embedding learning opportunities throughout the organization.

  • Partner with universities and colleges to attract talent, design programs and educate colleagues

  • Driving adoption and usage of learning assets available for all Citizens colleagues

  • Working closely with vendors to continually monitor trends and adopt best practices to increase impact and return on investment on learning assets

  • Continually evaluate and onboard best-of-breed and new learning solutions that can enable professional development of colleagues, based on learning strategy

  • Leading a team of both directs and non-directs to meet deliverables

  • Identifying desired training/development outcomes with tracking and reporting to business constituents regarding outcomes, impacts and participation

  • Conducting, leading or supervising projects that require needs assessments of current and future training requirements, as requested by the CLO

  • Communicating organizational initiatives at stakeholder meetings

  • Building relationships with all business partners to foster a common understanding of mutual goals

  • All other related duties as assigned by Chief Learning Officer

The chosen candidate may work in our corporate offices at Providence RI, Stamford, CT, or Boston/Dedham, MA. Candidate may be required to travel to Citizens Bank locations across the Northeast as needed.


Experience and Skills:

  • 10 or more years of Training / Business experience, preferably in Financial Services, or enterprises with 10K+ employees

  • Highly collaborative and able to lead and influence direct reports and partners

  • Innovative, willing to take risks, and a lifelong learner.

  • Strong knowledge of the Learning Industry, key thought leaders, and primary content vendors

  • Background in creating and implementing business specific professional development curriculums

  • Ability to think strategically incorporating multiple pieces of data while executing tactically

  • Superior facilitation and presentation skills; excellent written and communication skills

  • Strong organizational and influence skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Internal Consulting, Need Assessment, Design and Development experience

  • Ability to travel as required

Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials:

  • BA/BS Degree required in relevant field or equivalent work experience, Master’s degree in relevant field preferred (Education in Training, Needs Assessment and Design and Development)

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
