Essential Functions

Responsible for the overall management of the tool room utilizing Lean principles for the efficient use of personnel and equipment. Responsible for management of team activities toward meeting productivity, business unit and divisional goals.

Track and report metrics to determine how well the tool room is supporting the business unit (new mold lead time, repair time).

Drive process improvement to improve metrics unit using lean principles.

Hold machinists accountable for quality and schedule attainment. Provide them with tools and training necessary to be successful.

Manage staffing / training plan to ensure personnel are trained and assigned to the appropriate shift and equipment to support the business unit.

Assist machinists with all aspects of manufacturing, i.e. Setups, programming, production, record keeping, quality inspection, etc.

Enforce company practices and polices.

Develop and maintain 5S+ Safety culture.

Communicates necessary issues with manager and makes recommendations for improvement when necessary.

Ensures proper training takes place prior to placing an associate in a new position or a position that the associate has not preformed in the last 3 months.

Works with Manufacturing Engineer, quality or other support operations to reduce process waste.

Oversees work rules and policy applications to ensure consistency and fairness.

Train machinists on the utilization of Lean tools, i.e. TPM, SMED, 5 Why etc.

Maintains liaison with other team leaders and coordinates problem resolution.

Uses judgment to take a proactive role in solving problems or issues throughout the shift.

Gives feedback on associate performance reviews.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with 3 + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Demonstrated leadership and management skill required.

Experienced leading, coaching, and or participating in continuous improvement activities.

Possess high level of energy, personal accountability and integrity.

Experience with plastic injection molding.

Proven experience in reading 2D drawings with a solid understanding of GD&T.

Experience running CNC equipment (Lathe or Mill).

Functional understanding of major machine tools (Lathe, Mill, Grinding, EDM).

Solid understanding of machine setup, programming, and G-Code.
