The Design Engineer leads the development of new products and technologies that are aligned with Parker’s Industrial Aftermarket Filter business objectives (BHA). In this role you will be responsible for research, design, testing and analysis of parts, products, processes, or systems. You will execute projects from concept through prototyping, testing, validation and manufacturing. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding the true needs of internal and external customers and utilize your experience and expertise to develop and execute projects. The role is based in Overland Park, Kansas a suburb of Kansas City.
• Develops new air filtration products and improves core products by applying engineering and materials science principles. • Establish and manage project schedules and budgets to ensure completion on-time and within project scope. • Works as part of a cross-functional team to achieve project objectives (e.g. operations, sales, marketing) • Provides engineering support to manufacturing and sales as needed to ensure business continuity. • Performs mechanical and chemical tests on component materials per standard test methods such as ASTM (e.g. tensile testers, hardness testers, DSC, DMA, SEM) • Investigates product design inputs such as function, material, performance, interchangeability, cost and operational efficiency. • Provides technical information for review with product engineering team using established engineering practices, standards and documentation methods. • Reviews product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. • Maintains current level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and/or participating in professional associations. • Shares specialized knowledge with others. Assists in mentoring new employees. May represent the company on specific projects or engineering tasks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Textiles, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. • Ten years of proven hands-on experience in technology innovation, product development and project execution or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Ability to work and thrive in a very fluid environment with occasional changes to project priorities. • Proficient with engineering design and analysis tools (e.g. computer-aided design or modeling systems); ability to use standard software packages. • Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals. Applies judgement in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied. Works collaboratively in a team environment. • Track record of delivering new products on time that achieve the desired financial return. • Ability to effectively and independently interact with customers, suppliers and subcontractors, and able to deliver customer-facing presentations. • One day per week spent in Slater, MO manufacturing facility (two hours by vehicle from Overland Park, KS)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Advanced degree (M.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Textiles, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline. • Experience in the filtration industry. • Experience in polymeric material science and fiber expertise.
