General Motors Tuner Performance Engineer - ENG0038919 in Milford, Michigan

This position is based at the GM Milford Proving Ground (MPG) with occasional visits to the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead RF validation engineer for AM/FM/HD/DAB/SXM tuners, AM/FM/DAB/GPS/SXM antenna amplifiers, and V2V transceivers

  • Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of MPG tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver test lab

  • Develop and implement component and vehicle level tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver test procedures

  • Identify and support procurement of tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver test equipment
  • Support development of customer perceivable tuner/antenna amplifier/ transceiver requirements
  • Working knowledge of global GM and Suppler tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver test labs
  • Provide training to RF technicians on how to perform tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver tests
  • Support efficient scheduling of tuner/antenna amplifier/transceiver lab to meet Analysis/Development/Validation plan
  • Review and approve test data collected by RF technicians - develop and implement test report formats
  • Support root causing of reception issues on development, production, and customer complaint vehicles

Educational Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical preferred
  • Preferred: Master of Science – Electrical Engineering

Additional Qualifications

  • In-Depth knowledge of FM Broadcast receiver topologies, characteristics, and tests to include SNR, Soft Mute, IM2 / IM3, Audio Frequency Response, Pre-Emphasis / De-Emphasis, FM Multiplex, RDS / RBDS, Selectivity, Capture Ratio, Deviation Sensitivity and phase diversity concepts
  • In-Depth knowledge of AM Broadcast receiver topologies, characteristics, and tests to include SNR, Soft Mute, IM2 / IM3, Audio Frequency Response, Selectivity, Input Impedance dependencies upon radio reception / performance
  • Understanding of AM/FM Reception issues such as Overload / Intermodulation, weak signal issues, multipath, and interferers
  • Knowledge of HD Radio, HD Radio Certification and basic test HD Radio test procedures
  • Knowledge of DAB Radio, DAB Multiplex, and DAB Radio test procedures
  • Knowledge of SiriusXM Radio and the SiriusXM Radio Type Approval process and testing
  • Proficient in the use of Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes, and Audio Analyzers
  • In-Depth knowledge of Low-Noise Amplifier characteristics and tests to include IIP3, IP1dB, Gain, Noise Figure, IM2, IM3, and their impacts to overall system level performance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of amplifiers in the frequency range of 520kHz – 6GHz
  • Knowledge of the SiriusXM Antenna Type Approval process and testing
  • Proficient in the use of Vector Signal Generators, Vector Network Analyzers, Noise Sources, Oscilloscope and other test equipment
  • Ability to perform VNA impedance measurements on a Smith Chart and understand the impacts to the amplifier / system design
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis
