In this Engineering position you will be in charge of Validating several vehicles platforms (cars, trucks, Electrified vehicles, etc.) from an “Electromagnetic Compatibility perspective”. You will interact with Global Engineering Centers’ Release and Validation Engineers to design test plans to prove out your vehicle’s performance in customers’ hands. You will also work with Global Witnessing Agents to validate our vehicles for sale in various Global countries/regions to help ensure they meet the stringent requirements we need to be the #1 Mobility supplier on the planet.

  • Responsible for the Vehicle-level EMC Validation of a portfolio of GM vehicles.

  • Vehicles can be designed and produced from any GM Global Engineering Center

  • Complete all vehicle EMC Validation testing by published VTC date
  • Ensure vehicle hardware integrity. Coordinate with Bldg. 104 Perf. Engr. to verify vehicle is “Test Ready”
  • Review component test results when necessary to compare against vehicle results
  • Coordinate vehicle moves, tracking and scheduling
  • Complete timely and accurate Test Plans and provide test direction to technicians when necessary

  • Investigate and document all test incidents

  • Troubleshoot any deviation(s) during testing and identify all critical issues prior to VTC

  • Communicate issue to VVE and DRE/Supplier (engage EMC Component Engineer) on issues for troubleshooting and for development of potential solutions

  • Generate PRTS including all supporting documentation (alert receiving DRE/Supplier prior to authoring PRTS)

  • Document troubleshooting as part of Final EMC Report test data for follow-up reviews
  • Document all Vehicle Validation Testing in the end of test report to be loaded into GDM (GM Official Business Record) prior to the VDC of the particular vehicle tested. Alert Test Report Approver of completed report
  • Create final Vehicle EMC Validation Test Report to be loaded into GDM as an official GM Business record
  • Coordinate with associated VVEs to develop ADV plans for vehicles in area of responsibility
  • Establish EMC/RFI portions of LADV to comprehend program and system risk, EMC Validation needs, new components and overall timing. Optimize testing by comprehending vehicle option mix and vehicle availability to produce the most efficient plan with reduced number of redundant tests. Balance timing and number of tests during IVER for right mix of test quality vs risk
  • Ensure Validation resources are comprehended (manpower & vehicles) in CRs & confirmed when DN’d
  • Interface with GPD BFOs, EGMs, DREs, Vehicle Validation Engineers, and Component Validation Engineers at all GM Global Engineering Centers
  • Communicate and coordinate efficiently with Electrical Vehicle Validation Engineers and Milford Engineering personnel to specify vehicle content and procure properties for validation testing
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with various internal GM engineering departments and external suppliers
  • Specify unique technical attributes of the EMC vehicle level validation testing to be conducted by EMC Technicians
  • Design and assist in the execution of complex EMC Test plans according to the various global EMC regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate and execute “EMC Witness Testing” to meet various EU, Asian, etc. regulatory requirements
  • Design and establish “GVBR (Global Vehicle Build Requests)” to secure prototype vehicles necessary to meet EMC Vehicle validation objectives
  • Lead complex and unique troubleshooting activities as it relates to EMC/integration issues discovered while testing
  • Author complex PRTS issues to document Vehicle level validation non-conformances
  • Exercises technical direction over other engineers and/or EMC Technicians to carry out validation testing responsibilities
  • Stays abreast of new EMC technology and test methodology
  • Travels as required (minimal)

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in the discipline of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Engineering
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area
