General Motors Embedded Controller Design System Engineer - GPS0003874 in Milford, Michigan

The mission of the Embedded Controller Design System Engineer (DSE) is to lead the development, integration, and production release of the embedded propulsion controller system (hardware, software, and calibrations) while meeting customer and business requirements for the world’s best propulsion control systems.

The primary responsibilities and deliverables of the DSE fall into program management and systems engineering categories:

Program management:

  • Deliver hardware, software & calibration to production
  • Ensure deliverables of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) & Global Powertrain Development Process (GPDP) program gates
  • Review, assess and manage risk of open software development, verification and validation tasks prior to releasing parts for production
  • Lead Controller Execution Team (CET), i.e. a team made up of cross functional members (e.g. calibration managers, software strategists, controller hardware design release engineer, etc.) charged with managing the execution of the controller program

Systems engineering:

  • Engineering support for vehicle assembly plants; i.e. pre-production builds and product launch; e.g. leading problem resolution for vehicle assembly plant issues related to the embedded controller
  • Gather controller software requirements and ensure S/W Change Requests (CRs) for new program content are created & scheduled for development
  • Lead and manage controller issue resolution; respond to PRTS+
  • Ensure system-level design deliverables, robustness to variation & compliance to requirements
  • Primary embedded controller technical contact to other global organizations, e.g. manufacturing, service, system safety, etc.
  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant or customer issues related to algorithm and calibration

  • Knowledge of electronic module, sensor or actuator development, manufacturing and test engineering
  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications (e.g. CAN, CAN-FD)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with system/software/hardware requirements development and validation
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • High level of oral and written communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering required
