The Buyer I Program is responsible for the serving as the primary new program introduction and management of existing components for project related purchasing and supplier activities in his business unit or reporting unit.
Support projects through procurement of all materials needed for a particular end product
Support the implementation of the ZF commodity strategies
Support the whole purchasing process for new products or localization of existing products through supplier search, Bill of Material cost management; support the commodity organization in their request for quotations, commercial negotiations, contractual agreements including warranty and
consignment agreements, prototype orders, and purchase orders and/or scheduling agreements.
Monitor the performance of the suppliers during program launch and through product life cycle
Continuously review cost performance to target; nominate parts for Global Competitive Sourcing
Analyze North American supply base to prepare and recommend suppliers to be added/removed from the approved supplier list as well as nominate suppliers for the Strategic Supplier List.
Perform market research and monitor changes/trends for purposes of benchmarking and cost controlling.
Track costs through life cycle of product, while maintaining detailed cost tracking with suppliers.
Explore methods/materials for total cost management and cost structure analysis.
Update tracking tools according to industry best practices and ZF company policy.
Participate in continuous improvement programs in order to promote team efforts.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
Understand and ensure compliance with all group directives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or Business Administration, Economics or related
- 0-3+ years of relevant experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e. technical/commodity
purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.)
Knowledge of supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e. quality, capacity, cost, etc.)
Knowledge of APQP and/or project management tools and methods
Knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications
Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc.)
Technical abilities in business composition and mathematics
Analytical abilities with a high attention to detail
Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced, high-volume environment
Proven ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel and management
Solid organizational and time/project management skills
Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
Preferred Skills and experience:
C.P.P. (Certified Purchasing Professional) Certification
2 – 5 years of experience with high-level/complex business and/or purchasing negotiations
Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics, PPAP documentation, product costing, and specifications
Experience in the Automotive Industry
German and/or Spanish language skills
