The test technician makes routine measurements, arithmetic computations, observes and records instrument readings and assists higher-grade technicians. This employee performs both work based primarily on established practices and variable sequence testing that may not be standardized and uses a variety of specifications and reference guides in selecting and adapting procedures. He adapts to execute engineering requests with supervision and mentoring from Senior Product technicians and above. This employee develops a background of knowledge and understanding of engineering practice based on ongoing substantial, training and acquired experience. The test procedures require some experimental skill and judgment to achieve accurate and reproducible data. This employee receives moderate to minimal supervision. Detailed, conceptual and non-standard instructions are furnished and procedures, methods, and techniques are achieved without explicit instructions as to work methods. Non-routine technical problems, previously encountered by the technician, are resolved independently. Assistance in solving problems involving unfamiliar methods or concepts is supported by the supervisor. Technical adequacy of this employee’s work is periodically checked as is deemed appropriate by the requesting engineer and/or lab supervisor.
