Functional Area Quality
Business Unit North America Body Control Systems
Leads and coaches problem resolution teams to eliminate causes of non-conformance through appropriate use of basic and advanced problem-solving techniques. Facilitates the effective use of quality tools to identify, resolve, and prevent technical and systemic issues at BCS and supplier manufacturing locations. Ensures processes and controls are identified and implemented to guarantee quality and delivery performance. Primary focus is problem resolution/prevention to support supplier and manufacturing site launch readiness, customer delivered quality satisfaction, continuous improvement activities, and quality management systems.
Problem resolution and prevention - Develop, monitor, analyze, and improve quality performance through effective application of problem solving tools.
Utilize basic quality tools along with appropriate problem-solving techniques in the support of continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions
Monitor launch and production quality performance at the supplier and BCS plant to evaluate and improve component, in-process, and final product quality
Analyze performance data and corrective action reports to identify systemic areas of improvement
Utilize Read Across and Lessons Learned tools to promote problem prevention via feedback into the Product and Process development process
Product quality performance - monitor and coach implementation of appropriate tools to support product quality performance in accordance with applicable quality elements of APQP, IATF 16949 and Customer Specific requirements.
Coordinate with project team(s), suppliers, manufacturing site, and customers to understand the needs of the project and ensure all quality aspects are developed, matured, and implemented relative to the specific project
Promote, coach, and mentor quality core tools and customer specific requirements with suppliers and BCS manufacturing site(s) throughout the development and launch process
Review quality plans and process controls from supplier through manufacturing site to ensure they meet BCS and customer requirements.
Provide guidance to manufacturing personnel in the proper application of quality systems
Conduct periodic manufacturing process and product audits to assess adequacy and conformance to BCS requirements, customer specifications, QMS, and IATF requirements
Serve as a liaison between customers, suppliers, and BCS while maintaining positive working relationships and appropriate business conduct (values, demeanor, appropriate dress, etc.), including internal and external facilities.
Conduct periodic internal system audits on QMS to determine adequacy and effectiveness to conform to IATF requirements, BCS processes, and CSR.
Assist with quality function process, procedure and work instruction development, as needed.
Work on other duties and special projects as it relates to the position.
Follow all company and customer policies and procedures.
Understand and comply with IATF 16949 and ISO 14000 requirements.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field required; or Associate's degree with 4-6 years' experience.
Experience and Skill Requirements
Demonstrated skills in advanced problem-solving techniques:
- Shainin Red X Technical Problem Solving, Six Sigma Blackbelt, DMAIC/DFSS, etc.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive conclusion of activities;
Strong communication skills (verbal and written);
Ability to work effectively with internal teams, management, suppliers, and customers.
Preferred Skills and experience:
Internal Auditor Certification IATF 16949 (preferred)
Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Blackbelt (preferred)
Lean Mfg., 5S, Kaizen, etc.
