Job Description

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

  • This role will be the subject matter expert and technical leader for the ZF Predictive Maintenance and Intelligent Diagnostics (PM&ID) Core Team and Expert Network (Center of Excellence.) The role will be tightly interlinked to ZF’s division / function, closely partnering with respective technical teams delivering PM&ID capabilities into products across the entire ZF portfolio of products. Externally, the role will serve as figure head and focal point for excellence, innovation, and new capabilities in IM&PD at ZF. The role will partner with the ZF IoT platform team to develop implementation patterns and building blocks to reduce cost and increase performance of PM&ID, as well as with the Digital Monetization team to support monetization of PM&ID.

  • Lead Subject Matter Expert for PM&ID:

  • Serve as the expert internal consultant for PM&ID and its integration with IoT, I4.0, Data, and Analytics across all ZF Divisions and Function

  • For external engagement: Lead engagement planning; mobilize and manage engagement teams; define deliverable structure and content; facilitate buy-in of proposed solutions from customers and delivery teams.

  • Strong background, knowledge and understanding of PM&ID. Ph.D. or similar level of accomplishment evidenced by patents, papers, and stature in the industry.

  • PM&ID Management:

  • Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for PM&ID process, methods, tools, and data.

  • Work with Senior Business stakeholders to articulate opportunities for PM&ID across the ZF portfolio and achievements.

  • Identify and facilitate x-division/function synergies and collaborative PM&ID opportunities – deliver “whole is greater than the sum of the parts”

  • Manage the technical content, education, best practices, and technical competency of the ZF PM&ID extended network.

  • Manage and Oversee Lighthouse PM&ID Initiatives:

  • Overall responsibility for achieving the quality outcomes of the lighthouse PM&ID projects.

  • Provide thought leadership to Divisions/Functions on PM&ID (Ideation to Incubation to Monetization at scale)

  • Develop modules and implementation patterns on the ZF IoT platform to accelerate delivery of Lighthouse and other capabilities.

  • Manage the Transformational Change:

  • Foster company-wide commitment for the PM&ID as part of the digital strategy and prioritize initiatives per the company needs, and align it with the overall strategy of the company.

  • Act as the ambassador within the company for Digital transformation

  • Act as a spokesperson in the external community helping ZF positioning as a Digital leader, attracting highly talented workforce

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relationship management with Divisions/Functions to ensure buy in to internal monetization opportunities. Assure no conflicts with external monetization opportunities.

  • Coordination work and relevant communication with other cross functional teams within the broader ZF organization (IT, R&D, …) to deliver a seamless overall delivery experience to the different Divisions/Functions

  • Act as the change agent in building credibility for the Digital organization by consistently delivering to business expectations

  • Work with the internal teams (Digital Labs, Digital Factory, …) to maximize synergy.

  • Support the build-up of an efficient organization that allows for realization of ZF’s Digital Monetization goals

  • Lead and manage necessary project teams to successfully deliver the stated objectives for lighthouse monetization projects

  • Use appropriate and effective communication methods to engage and manage stakeholder expectations.


  • Technical leadership of Predictive Maintenance and Intelligent Diagnostics

  • Life cycle ownership for ideas for monetization opportunities

  • Responsibility for realizing the stated objectives for monetization

Required Education and Experience

A technical degree from an accredited college or university is required; an advanced degree or equivalent technical standing

Experience and Skill Requirements

► Demonstrated experience working both at either an OEM or the supply base, or equivalent

► Passion for technology with the requisite operations expertise and an entrepreneurial spirt

► A builder, not just a refiner, who is versatile and agile in an evolving environment

► Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in Predictive Maintenance and Diagnostics with at least five years of leadership experience with enterprise-wide responsibility preferably in a complex organization

► Strong managing, organizing and evaluating skills with a track record of developing and implementing a sophisticated, end-to-end service delivery model

► Demonstrated capability to communicate findings, orally and visually, to senior leadership members and outside partners and customers in the technology ecosystem

► Deep technical understanding of PM&ID as well as a demonstrated track record of envisioning the application of these methods to achieve documented results

► Ability to impact outcomes via influence versus authority

► Effective negotiation and influencing skills, including strong written and verbal communication and strong presentation abilities
