ZF Development Engineer in Livonia, Michigan
Division A - Engineering - Braking
Within the Product Engineering - Braking Business Unit, Foundation Brakes Department, Brake Development Group.
Development and testing of current production and new brake designs for foundation brake products (caliper, drum-in-hat, drum brake, rotor, hub, etc).
Analyze data and identify drivers of product performance; communicates results with affected stakeholders (applications team, design team, production team, and customer).
Prepares detailed test summaries and conducts root cause analysis utilizing various engineering resources (materials lab, quality lab, etc).
Plans and manages design verification and product validation test work packages for global applications projects and issues test reports approving production release of parts.
Organizes and executes test work packages in support of program milestones (e.g. design verification tests to support drawing release, product validation testing to support production part approval process) and publishes required reports.
Processes work packages for work not requiring improvements to product design in support of manufacturing or purchasing(e.g. process changes).
Maintains summaries of component attributes (e.g. caliper stiffness, disc temperature) and standard timing of design / application specific verification plans and reports.
Supports vehicle demonstrations, prototype builds, and interface with customer / supplier to develop and launch foundation brake products.
Coordinates with internal departments to develop braking products concurrently that meet cost, reliability and manufacturing objectives.
Maintains appropriate engineering procedures throughout the product development process including problem solving and achieving engineering deliverables.
Minimum of bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Masters degree preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of automotive product engineering experience working in product development with a preferred focus on foundation brake design and braking systems.
Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt certification preferred.
