Job Description

The Transportation Coordinator contributes to and is responsible for the optimization of the transport flows and costs associated with Tenneco (North American inbound, outbound and expedited transport providers). The Transportation Coordinator also has responsibility for working with the Logistics Department coordinating the implementation of logistical Best Business Practices. The person in this role also performs analytical comparisons or evaluations of business critical projects; gathers, analyzes and benchmarks historical, current and proposed transportation trends for management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans transportation flow for all suppliers inbound to site and outbound paid transportation

  • Collects, analyzes and issues proposed transportation rate and service proposal comparisons

  • Creation & maintenance of transportation dashboard distributed weekly

  • Supports of the financial, strategic and technical capabilities of the organization with freight cost analyses and reporting

  • Partners with internal and external operating units such as finance, commodity buyers, MIS, internal and external resources in supporting the development of logistics best practices

  • Maintains databases and reports for the logistics department, including: key performance indicators (KPIs), freight rate calculator, open orders, various freight invoice audits, transportation rate analyses and shipment validations

  • Provides project management support for logistics, including any custom applications

  • Provides interactive communication with distribution center, manufacturing plants, finance, purchasing and outside service providers, including vendors, and other support resource

  • Travel up to 10%

Required Experience

Required Skills

  • Strong PC skills; database manipulation and query; proficiency in MS Office

  • General understanding of SAP

  • Material planning knowledge a plus

  • Logistics knowledge of transport modes

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment inside of a manufacturing facility
