Advanced Product, Warranty Engineer – Valve Train

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall coordination & administration of the warranty program
  • Responsible for warranty analysis – Teardown, Post analysis and reporting
  • Responsible for global customer assessments, consultations, Beginning of Test/End of Test analyses and warranty analyses – must be willing to travel globally, estimated 5-10% of job assignment will require travel
  • Lead the Warranty Council reviews for Grand Rapids Leadership and appropriate staff heads
  • Report out to the Corporate Product Improvement Team (CPIT) with warranty and other plant performance metrics
  • Warranty management reduction plans, using customer portal fields where appropriate
  • Work together with functional engineering groups – support, share results, lessons learned, etc.
  • Responsible for Benchmark Studies: Gate Charts, IPTV Charts, Bucket Charts (customer complaints)
  • Support plant activities as required with Product Engineering input
  • Participate and represent Product Engineering in Protect the Customer (PTC) meetings – review customer production issues
  • Responsible for interfacing with OEM engine customers, validation engineers and manufacturing personnel
  • Problem solving – Red X, 6 Sigma, 5 Why, DFSS, etc.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or B.S. in relevant discipline – ME
  • 5+ Years of Valve Train product experience or relevant automotive powertrain
  • Knowledge of quality systems – familiar with TS16949
  • Expert knowledge and application of GD&T
  • Proficient with computer based design and office software
  • Fluent in technical English, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in organizational skills and record keeping
  • Excellent public speaking presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Valve Train experience with lifters, cam shaft, bearings, Variable Cam Phasers and/or Oil Control Valves
  • Familiar with Project Management of programs and the tools used to track programs
  • Masters degree in engineering or business
  • Knowledge of GM’s GART system – Warranty Data Base
  • General knowledge of valve train and sub-system trends, product designs
  • Valve Train testing experience and/or exposure (1 to 5 years)
  • Works with little or no supervision – may supervise or provide work directions to other staff
  • Working familiarity with high speed, high precision fabrication and assembly processes, ie valve train processing techniques
  • Research & Analyze reliability of products using warranty data and/or Weibull Analysis
