Stryker Kitroom Team Leader - Durban in Durban, South Africa

Position Summary:

Kit room Team Leader is the Lead position within our Kit room Career Path. You are in the leading stages of your Service/Support career and are supporting the Sales team through the management of Kit room staff. Use of appropriate and effective leadership behaviors and fundamentally upholding quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Manage a service team as it evolves and grows over time. Active participation in and, if necessary, management of projects related to the tasks of Kit room Team Leader.

  • Ensure departmental compliance with quality systems and manufacturer's specifications.

  • Ensure departmental compliance with departmental and company Policies and Procedures.

  • Provide an interface between Kit room Manager and Kit room staff.

Talent Management

  • Conduct performance reviews, talent reviews and performance management disciplinary in accordance with Stryker Talent Management timelines and policies.


  • Training of new staff members on all relevant policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate with Sales Staff for training on new products as and when required.

  • Assist with updating relevant policies and procedures as needed.

  • Complinace to SOP and ensure audit readiness when applicable

  • Analysis and report back on SER’s

Building Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationship Kit room team.

  • Sales partners, internal and external customers.


  • Feedback to Sales Teams on bookings

  • Communication on exceptions, Training of new staff members on all relevant policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate with Sales Staff for training on new products as and when required.

  • Assist with updating relevant policies and procedures as needed.

  • Daily communication

  • Tracking reports and feedback on exceptions

  • Manage relationship with 3PL at branch.


  • Assist Kit room Manager with compiling and distributing of reports as and when required.

  • Service and maintain Kit sets for customer user as and when needed.

  • Prepare all departmental documentation according to good documentation practices.

  • Liaise with Management, Sales, CSD, WHS, Kit room staff & forwarders through clear communication.

  • Uphold quality standards and communicate proactively with Kit room staff.

  • Ability to perform the duties of all Kit Support Associates, Coordinator & Specialist as and when needed.

  • Developing Others: Works collaboratively with Kit room Manager, leads projects to address developmental needs of group by sharing their expertise with more junior team members. May directly manage people.

  • Discretion/Latitude/Impact: Works under consultative direction with Kit room Manager toward predetermined short- and long-range goals and objectives and in creating team strategy. Projects are often self-initiated. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of superior. Supervises the activities of lower level personnel in achieving team strategy. Demonstrates well-developed leadership skills. Regularly interacts with other departments within the company, representing Kit room Team. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and affect the image of the organization.


  • Degree in related field and 3 years' experience in an Operations environment ORMatric and 3+ years’ experience in an Operations environment

  • Prerequisite leadership ability; at management or supervisory level, min 3 years' experience in team management

  • Experience in medical device industry a plus

  • Comprehensive medical product portfolio knowledge advantageous

  • Fluency in English, spoken & written

  • Advanced IT knowledge (MS Office, Internet)

  • Good ERP system knowledge preferred

  • Proven performance

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required have a hands on approach and get involded with the daily activites in the Kit room within the various functional areas.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10kg.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • May be exposed to Hazardous materials. Employees need to consult SDS in their work area.

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to protect against exposure to Blood Bourne pathogens and chemicals.

  • Required to comply with all Health & Safety Management Systems the company has in place to eliminate or minimize occupational risk and injury to workers.

  • Required to work shifts, on call as agreed with Kit Room Manager
