Job Description / Information
Stryker ’s Burnaby R&D and manufacturing facility is looking for a Lead Facilities Specialist . This person plays a primary role in the operations and maintenance of the facility, and therefore plays an important role in enabling the innovation and efficient production of state-of-the-art medical devices that help improve the lives of patients around the world.
The Lead Facilities Specialist manages and performs the activities of planning equipment and furniture layout, workflow, and accident prevention measures to maintain efficient and safe utilization of plant facilities.
In additional, this person maintains the safety, cleanliness, and security of the facility, including development of the local policies for implementing the same. The person also manages the contracts of, and oversees the work completed by, vendors responsible for the maintenance of building systems.
Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on fire control devices, air conditioning, lighting, pest control, etc.
Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the facility; manage hazardous materials at the facility
Complete basic repairs and maintenance
Enforce the security of the facility
Ensure that the facility complies with regulations (fire codes, GMP/FDA, waste management, etc.); coordinate training, as necessary, on these issues
Develop and execute health and safety plans; conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
Monitor compliance to policies; inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures
Fulfill construction and furniture needs, and optimize layout for efficiency, comfort, and appearance
Manage, and coordinate and negotiate with vendors for products and services
Write, review, and approve contracts for vendors’ products and services
Write, review, and train others on Facilities-related procedures
Represent Facilities during internal and external audits (e.g. FDA)
Assist with equipment installation and qualification per appropriate quality system procedures
Manage Facilities expenses and budget
May involve management of assistants as needed
Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in facilities management
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferred)
High attention to detail
Some experience with layout and basic building construction
Effective reading and writing skills
Effective interpersonal, communications, and problem solving skills
Ability to prioritize projects; able to escalate problems as needed
Able to complete HAZMAT / WHMIS training
Mechanical aptitude and computer proficiency required
Computer literate - spreadsheets, word processing, graphing
Preliminary knowledge of local health and safety regulations
