General Motors Advanced Cloud Architect - INF0021799 in Austin, Texas

About the Role:

The position is within the General Motors’ Information Technology (GMIT) Global Infrastructure Cloud Platform Solutions team as an Advanced Cloud Architect. This team is responsible for providing a reliable, scalable, and secure IaaS and PaaS platforms to support enterprise applications. This will be a highly technical role, with an emphasis on leading complex, strategic efforts. The responsibility will be primarily for leading efforts in planning, design, and implementation of automated infrastructure components within GM’s private cloud.

  • Expert in Pivotal Cloud Foundry, cloud-native application architecture, 12 factor, containers, and related technologies. Advanced knowledge of Dev/Ops framework with the ability to run pairing sessions.
  • Excellent presentation skills, able to coordinate and facilitate workshops as the main speaker.
  • Create and implement infrastructure architectures for Advance PaaS deployments
  • Collaborate with teams to create Ci/CD pipelines and create a culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Continuously learn and be at the leading edge of industry developments
  • Lead iteration planning
  • Lead daily standup meetings across one or many projects, keeping the ritual brief and productive
  • Prepare for and facilitate agile inceptions
  • Enable, coach and lead customers across varied levels of understanding, through process
  • Work collaboratively on multiple initiatives; maintaining backlogs, driving feature completion, reporting to senior management on progress and prioritization
  • Work with Engineering during the development, launch and continuing evolution of the platform and integrated market place services
  • Become an agent of change within customer organizations

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, capable of public speaking and presenting in front of customers
  • 3+ years experience building distributed / service oriented / microservice-style and cloud based application architectures
  • 3+ years experience in an agile coaching/mentoring role
  • 5+ years of software delivery experience
  • Ability to see and present "the big picture" and other solutions to make it better
  • Ability to facilitate project inceptions, daily standups, iteration planning and retrospectives across multiple initiatives in parallel
  • Mastery of cloud service and deployment models
  • Expert knowledge of Linux / Unix / Windows systems
  • Experience with production systems and dealing with production issues
  • Master level experience with a platform as a service product such as Cloud Foundry, Heroku, Elastic Beanstalk, Kubernetes, or similar
  • Knowledge of programming technologies, such as Python, Ruby, and shell script
  • 5+ years VMware vSphere / vRealize Suite/ vRA / ESXi experience
  • 8+ years experience in release management and production operations
  • 5+ years experience working on or leading agile development teams (ideally leveraging
  • Scrum or Kanban)
  • 5+ years experience with Spring, Spring Security, Spring MVC, Spring Integration, Spring Data
  • 3+ years OpenStack, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud experience
  • 3+ years experience with Chef, Puppet, BOSH, or related automation / orchestration tools
  • 3+ years experience with systems monitoring, alerting and analytics (NewRelic, AppDynamics, Logstash, Nagios, Splunk, vROPS, etc.)
